Now 200MP cameras are coming to budget phones
Due to the recent launches of the top Motorola X30 Pro and Motorola Edge 30 Ultra handsets, Motorola was the first to incorporate a 200MP camera sensor into a smartphone. Although Xiaomi recently joined the fray with the €749 Xiaomi 12T Pro, 200MP cameras are going to be seen on mid-range smartphones as well.
The Redmi sub-brand of Xiaomi confirmed on Weibo that the forthcoming Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus will in fact have a 200MP main camera. The business will use the recently unveiled Samsung Isocell HPX sensor, to be more precise.
A 200MP Mid-range Sensor
This sensor features a 0.56-micron pixel size and a 1/1.4-inch sensor size. The 200MP HP1 sensor (0.64-micron pixels) used in the Xiaomi 12T Pro and Motorola flagships has pixels that are 12% lower in size.
The sensor may produce images that are comparable to those from a 50MP 1.12-micron pixel camera, however, by using four-in-one pixel binning. Additionally, it has 16-in-1 binning capabilities and can produce images that are comparable to a 12.5MP 2.24-micron pixel sensor. For what it’s worth, Redmi affirms that all three shooting modes will be available (200MP, 50MP, 12.5MP).
In either case, you shouldn’t anticipate better results in dimly lit or mixed lighting circumstances given the smaller pixels compared to the already tiny pixels observed on contemporary 200MP phones. However, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra’s 200MP camera produced unimpressive shots in our opinion, so we’re hoping the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus’s image processing is superior.
However, the Redmi Note 12 series will debut on October 27 in China. On the same day, Redmi will also sell the Note 12 Pro, and it has already been revealed that the device will replace its 200MP camera with a 50MP IMX766 one.
