SellCell reports that resale value patterns indicate the iPhone SE 4 might not keep its worth as effectively as Apple’s premium models. The article claims that Apple’s iPhone SE devices have historically lost value far faster than the company’s more expensive models. Launched in March 2022, the third-generation iPhone SE saw a sharp decline in its resale value, falling 42.6% in the first month of sales.
Comparing this depreciation rate to the iPhone 13, which only witnessed an 18.7% reduction in the same period, shows how different they are. After three months, the value of the iPhone 13 steadied, a resiliency not observed in the third-generation iPhone SE, which kept losing value. The distinction between Apple’s flagship and budget lines is further highlighted by the fact that the iPhone 14 and 15 models have shown better value retention when compared to the third-generation iPhone SE.
These patterns indicate that the fourth-generation iPhone SE would still see a steeper depreciation than Apple’s higher-end models, even despite a number of reported enhancements. Some buyers, especially those who prioritize resale value, may be deterred from investing in the next iPhone SE due to this trend of value loss.
The iPhone SE’s quicker depreciation rate may be due to several things, such as consumers’ demand for high-end features, the perceived status as an entry-level alternative, and technical improvements that render models using earlier technology more quickly obsolete.
Rumored to have an all-screen design that eliminates the Home button, a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID in place of Touch ID, a USB-C port, and an Action button, the fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to resemble the iPhone 14. Launching in 2025 is anticipated.
