Is the screen of your MacBook or iMac dirty? There are others besides you. People who enjoy slurping soup in front of their screens may find it problematic if spills go on their priceless screens. Fear not—we possess the (fairly apparent) finest practices to restore your screen to its original gleaming condition.
Make sure your Mac or MacBook is disconnected and turn it off first. Next, get a cloth for yourself. The best kind is one made of microfibre. Because dust is negatively charged, these cloths are negatively charged, thus they work great to remove dust from other parts of your computer and from the screen without the need for water or other solutions. Make sure you don’t have any little microfiber cloths lying around in your junk drawers because many modern electronics come with them.
Therefore, you can actually configure it to clean the screen after you’ve dusted everything off. You can do this by dampening your cloth with water. Don’t worry, if you don’t spray water all over your computer, nothing will get damaged. Use of any form of abrasive solution, including window cleaning products, is not recommended. Ammonia is a component in Windex and other window cleaning products that may harm your screen. Moreover, you should avoid using any product that contains acetone or any solvent.
Another option is to use a certain type of screen cleaner designed for computer or TV screens, although to be honest, most of these are scams. All of these solutions that claim to have “a no-streak formula” contain water and isopropyl alcohol. With one part 70% isopropyl and one part distilled water, you can simply produce your own. Apply it to the microfiber cloth rather than the screen, but if you want to be really fancy, put it in a mister bottle.
Once more, you want to moisten the microfiber cloth rather than splatter liquid directly onto the screen, in case something happens by accident. Next, clean it until any stains or streaks that catch the light are gone. Although an isopropyl-based solution will dry more quickly than water, you should still wait for it to completely dry before restarting your computer.
A “polishing cloth” should be included with certain monitors, such as the Apple Studio Display, which are mini-LED screens; instead, these are merely microfiber towels. Although Apple says their screens are nano-textured, the same technique is used on a typical MacBook screen. Wipe away after dampening the cloth with a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water.
