You could decide if you wish to downgrade if you installed iOS 18 Beta or iPadOS 18 Beta through Apple’s Developer Program or Software Beta Program due to usability or stability problems. To find out how to accomplish it, continue reading.
Major software upgrades from Apple are sometimes known to have significant bugs in the beta versions, especially in the early releases. It’s possible to experience malfunctioning applications, short battery life, device crashes, and non-functional features. Thankfully, you can go back to the previous iOS version on your iPhone or iPad.
You can uninstall the iOS 18 beta and restore the backup if you create an archived backup before installing the beta. You may still downgrade without creating a backup, but you won’t be able to get your device back to how it was before you updated it.
Additionally, keep in mind that when you’ve returned to iOS 17, your Apple Watch that has watchOS 11 loaded won’t work with your iPhone. It is also not possible to manually downgrade an Apple Watch to an earlier version of watchOS; instead, you will need to send your watch to Apple in order to have watchOS 11 removed.
How to Downgrade From iOS 18 Beta or iPadOS 18 Beta
- Launch Finder on your Mac (or iTunes on Windows PCs.)
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using a Lightning or USB-C cable.
- Put your device into recovery mode. The method of doing this depends on your device, so check the list below these steps to find your model. Apple also provides more information on recovery mode in this support article.
- A dialog will pop up asking if you want to restore your device. Click Restore to wipe your device and install the latest public release of iOS or iPadOS.
- Wait while the restore process completes.
How to Enter Recovery Mode on Your iOS Device
- iPad models with Face ID:Â Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Top button until your device begins to restart. Continue holding the Top button until your device goes into recovery mode.
- iPhone XS or later:Â Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
Once you’ve completed the aforementioned procedures, you may use your Mac or iCloud to restore a backup of your device from iOS 17 or iPadOS 17.
